A man detonated his explosives shortly after noon near the United States embassy in Montenegro in Podgorica on Wednesday night, shortly after throwing a grenade at the building, police said. .

"At around 00:30 (local time and Greek time), in front of the US embassy building in Montenegro, an unknown person committed suicide (detonating) an explosive device. "A little earlier, this man threw (another) an explosive device (…) inside the embassy," said a statement issued by the government.

The US embassy in Sarajevo was the target of a terrorist attack in October 2011. An Islamist, Mevlid Jasarevic, fired an automatic rifle at the building for almost an hour. He wounded a police officer, before he himself was wounded by a select sniper and arrested. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
