At least 13 people have been killed in a military helicopter crash involving Mexican Interior Minister Alfonso Navarrete, local judicial authorities said today.
The helicopter carrying top officials was heading to the area hardest hit by the 7,2 magnitude earthquake that struck late Friday night in Oaxaca State.
"We retrieved the bodies of 12 people: five women, four men, two little girls and a boy. "Another person who was taken to Hamiltepek hospital succumbed to his injuries," said a statement issued by authorities.
So far 15 injured have also been reported.
Earlier, Navarete told Televisa that he and Oaxaca Governor Alejandro Murat were not seriously injured.
