Rapid flight that remains unresolved by the FBI after 17 months

The perpetrator managed to escape and the investigation remains open

It was just before 10 p.m. on June 16, 2017, when Aubrey Lane boarded Flight 1280 at Phoenix Sky International Airport to travel to New York and meet her family on a flight that proved to be a nightmare for her.

A few hours after takeoff, she got up to go to the plane's toilet but without realizing it, a drunken man followed her, who trapped her and raped her in the toilet. In fact, the specific man was sitting right next to her during the take-off and until the incident.

The hours that followed were a blur of trauma and confusion, Lane said as she waited for the plane to land, met with police at JFK International Airport and was taken to a nearby hospital.

The flight attendants knew what had happened, as they moved her to another location and the police accepted the woman's complaint when she arrived at the JFK, however, the man who had raped her normally went through the gate and allowed him to leave.

17 months later, the Lane case remains in the hands of the FBI with little visible signs of progress and no information.

Lane offered to meet with the airline to discuss what happened although the company declined as the FBI investigation is still ongoing.
