NEW STUDY - GERASIMOS SIASOS: The effect of the disease COVID-19 in the vessels is proportional to the severity of the disease

New study from the XNUMXrd University Cardiology Clinic of the Medical School of EKPA in collaboration with the XNUMXrd University Pathology Clinic and the Intensive Care Units of GNTHA "I Sotiria" published in the journal "Vascular Pharmacology" in patients with COVID-19 provided new data on the extent of vascular endothelial involvement both during the acute phase of the disease and six months after discharge from the hospital.

According to the findings of the study, the extent of endothelial dysfunction was proportional to the severity of the disease and its outcome. In the follow-up of these patients there was a gradual improvement of the endothelial function which, however, was lagging behind in a control population that had not been diagnosed with COVID-19. The restoration of endothelial function is left to the patients who were hospitalized in an intensive care unit.

As stated by the President of the Medical School of EKPA, Professor of Cardiology Mr. Gerasimos Siasos "These data are interesting because they focus on the number of cardiovascular disorders observed during the long COVID-19 syndrome. Special post COVID cardiology clinics, such as the XNUMXrd University Cardiology Clinic of the Medical School of EKPA at GNTHA "I SOTIRIA", examine patients who have fallen ill and then face cardiac symptoms ".
