Rome: Earth opens up and swallows cars in central Baldwin

romi 17 CARS, ROME

At least eight cars fell into a large hole created in the central Baldwin area of Rome.

At this point, works were underway to create underground garages. Suddenly the road on which they were parked receded and the cars fell into the crater.

Initially, there were fears that some of the workers working for the garage-making company might have been injured.

But the mayor of Rome, Virginia Raji, who visited the area, confirmed that the report only concerns damage related to damaged cars.

The retreat of the road surface is probably due to underground water leakage. Two adjacent apartment buildings were temporarily evacuated for precautionary reasons.
