Four people were killed and four others were injured when an unknown assailant opened fire on a festival in southern Russia, according to international news agencies.
The incident took place in the city of Kizlyar, the provincial capital of the Republic of Dagestan, Interfax reported, citing a local source. The perpetrator opened fire on a group of people celebrating the Russian folk festival of Maslenitsa.
Security forces who were there for the event shot the perpetrator and killed him, according to the source, adding that three of the four injured in the incident were the guards.
