A small private plane carrying members of the Palmas Futebol e Regatas (Category D) football team crashed this morning in the Luzimangues area, shortly after taking off from Porto Nacional airport in the Brazilian state of Tocandinins.
According to local media, a video taken at the scene of the plane crash shows the aircraft burning shortly after the crash. Four players, team president Lucas Meira, 32, and the pilot of the aircraft are dead, according to initial reports.
The players who lost their lives are Lucas Praxedes, 23, Guilherme Noé, 28, Ranule, 27, and Marcus Molinari, 23.
According to Globo, images from the crash site show the plane was completely destroyed.
The team was to face Villa Nova in the Copa Verde, in Goiania. The match was scheduled for tomorrow, Monday.
