Mexico is reviewing its full-fledged cooperation with the United States over "personal" differences and tensions between the two neighboring countries, Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgarai said on Monday. "Given the current state of affairs and the current public and personal disputes with the US government, President Enrique Pena Nieto will make some decisions," Videgarai said in an interview with Grupo F. rmula, however, clarified that, at present, "no decision has been taken".

"The rhetoric of President (US Donald) Trump, the tone in which he refers to the Mexicans (…) are different, they mark the relationship, we can not remain idle indefinitely in front of it," added the head of Mexican diplomacy. The areas of bilateral cooperation that have been or will be re-evaluated include those of security, but also of trade, Videgarai clarified.

Trump last week ordered the deployment of 2.000-4.000 troops to the border to help crack down on illegal immigration. His decision, following a series of angry remarks by the Republican, further escalated tensions in US bilateral relations with Mexico. Mexican President Pena Nieto, visibly annoyed, described Trump's "threatening behavior" and "disrespect" as unjustified.

Last week, Trump repeatedly cracked down on the Mexican authorities and other countries, following a report by a U.S. television network on a caravan of immigrants from Central American countries crossing Mexican territory to reach the United States. .

Speaking in West Virginia on Thursday, the billionaire returned to something that caused a huge uproar in the run-up to the election, namely that he considered the Mexicans "rapists": he said that the women in this caravan "have suffered unprecedented rape". Following his statement, Mexican diplomacy summoned US Ambassador Roberta Jacobson and demanded an explanation. "The relationship between Mexico and the United States is at an unprecedented moment," Videgarai said on Monday. The "evaluation" phase will last "a few weeks", Videgarai clarified, pointing out that the key here is that these are not just words. "This attitude (of Trump) should have consequences."
