The highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus has been detected in a duck poultry farm in the south-west of France, the French Ministry of Agriculture announced today.
It is the first time during the current wave of bird flu that H5N1 has been detected in southwestern France, which hosts most of France's pate foie gras production, and where last winter a previous wave of bird flu had decimated duck flocks.
