Russian President Vladimir Putin described the 19th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party as "unexpectedly open", stressing that Russia has "big plans for cooperation" with China.

"We are closely following the developments at the Chinese Communist Party congress, which is unexpectedly open. "We see difficulties, but also opportunities," Putin said during a discussion of the Russian think tank (Valdai Discussion Club) in Sochi.

The Russian president described China as the "driving force" of the world economy.

Despite the fact that China's GDP fell to 6,8% in the third quarter of 2017, Putin estimated that the ongoing structural economic changes in China will lead to sustainable economic growth.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, commenting on the progress made in Guizhou Province over the past five years, said that socialism with Chinese characteristics is entering "a new era."

The Chinese president called on members of the Chinese Communist Party in China, as well as all the different ethnic groups living on Chinese soil, to promote this socialism with Chinese characteristics.

President Xi made the remarks during a debate at the 19th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, with a delegation from Guizhou Province.
