AKEL General Secretary Andros Kyprianou spoke to SigmaLive about the upcoming parliamentary elections and the selection of candidates.
"A large number of candidates were proposed, close to 700 people, whom AKEL talked to," said Mr. Kyprianou initially.
He added that they reached about 80 people who will go down to the internal party process where the final group of 56 people will emerge. He added that the procedure would take place next week, but due to the decrees it has been postponed to the first week of February.
He clarified that the candidates will come from the area of AKEL, the wider Left and the area of the New Forces.
Finally, he stated that AKEL's goal is to exceed the percentage it received in the previous parliamentary elections.
