The Paphos Police arrested two persons aged 25 and 23 for illegal possession of narcotic substances, driving under the influence of narcotic substances and illegal stay on the territory of the Republic.

According to the Spokesman of the Paphos ADE and the Head of the Paphos TAE Michalis Nikolaou, shortly after midnight on Sunday members of the Paphos Crime Prevention Ulam were conducting traffic checks on Tafoi ton Vasileon Avenue when they stopped a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old, with a 30-year-old and a 23-year-old passenger.

A quantity of cannabis was found in the possession of the 23-year-old. When interrogated, the 23-year-old allegedly stated that he possessed the drugs for his own use and was taken to YCAN (Klimakio Paphos). Further examinations revealed that the 23-year-old was residing illegally on the territory of the Republic as his application for political asylum was rejected. Since then he remains illegally in the territory of the Republic and was taken into custody. The driver of the vehicle was also tested positive for drugs. The 25-year-old was dismissed pending scientific examinations at the State General Chemistry.

Police investigations into the case are ongoing.
