Snow fell today in Vavatsinia and other communities of mountainous Larnaca, while the temperature is expected to fall below zero tonight.
As the Mayor of Vavatsinia Andreas Gabriel stated to KYPE, "the first snow fell in the community this morning, something that is very beautiful as a spectacle and is welcome, but at the same time they bring with them problems in the road network. Specifically, the buses did not manage to transport the children to the Elementary and High School of Lefkara, while on the road, apart from the snow, as the day passes, frost forms, a fact that makes it difficult to move on the roads ".
He added that "from 3 am today at dawn the first flakes began to fall, but then spread it, since around 7 the snow reached a height of 5 cm. "Because today many hunters are in the mountains for hunting, they should be careful of the frost that is expected to form in the afternoon, while care is needed by those drivers who go to mountainous Larnaca".
Answering a relevant question, Mr. Gabriel said that "the roads of Lefkara - Vavatsinia and Vavatsinia - Machera have become dangerous for drivers, since the road is very slippery and they need to show great care. "After a communication we had with the Meteorological Service, we were informed that tonight the temperature will drop below zero degrees".
The mayor of Vavatsinia called on the public "to be especially careful, since the low temperatures and the water on the road will form ice, with the result that driving for vehicles that do not have anti-skid chains and movement on all four wheels, is dangerous".
