The "foreign minister", Thaksin Ertugrouloglou, in his statements stated that the infrastructure works are continuing in order to turn the enclosed city of Varos, which, as he claimed, is located within the "borders" of the pseudo-state, and began to open gradually in October. of 2020.

Speaking to the Turkish news agency Anatoli, Ertugrouloglou said that so far they have not taken any steps that affect private property and are careful in this matter, as reported by the Press and Information Office.

He added that "however, when the case comes to that stage, the rights of the old owners, including the property of the Ottoman vakufis, will be resolved with a formula harmonized with international law." Until that day comes, the infrastructure of a city that has been closed for almost 50 years must take a healthy shape. Eventually, Varosi will be transformed into a city living under Turkish rule. In other words, there is no question of Varosios returning to the Greek Cypriot side. "

Referring to the negotiations on the Cyprus issue, Mr. Ertugrouloglou reiterated the Turkish position that the negotiations do not make sense "on platforms where the Greek Cypriots are treated by the state and the Turks of Cyprus are treated by the community." He claimed that such negotiations had no chance of success and that they lost 53 years.

"We do not have the luxury of losing another 53 years," he added, noting that their expectation from the UN Secretary-General is now to convene a second informal five-party conference. "And the important thing is what happens after this second conference," he said.

"What we support is our equality, our sovereignty, the equal international regime of our state with the Greek Cypriot state. "These are not elements that will be rejected, ignored and abandoned," he said.
