He thinks that we are on the right track with the professor of Microbiology / Molecular Virology of the Medical School of the University of Nicosia, Dr. Petros Karagiannis, according to the results presented by the epidemiological picture of the country in the last days.

Speaking on the show Mesimeri kai Kati, Dr. Karagiannis clarified that no attempt has been made so far to de-escalate the measures in force and at the same time explained the way in which services and businesses will open their doors again.

"I think we are on the right track and I hope we continue with this downward trend and maybe by the end of January we will talk about percentages around 100 and a little lower. "Maybe the 907 cases that were announced in one day were the culmination and I hope we will not see any escalation when the measures are de-escalated", he said, commenting on the epidemiological picture.

Regarding the way in which the de-escalation of the measures is likely to take place, Dr. Karagiannis said that the course followed in May may be followed.

That is, the companies that closed last to open first. "I hope that at some point in February we will open the restaurants and the shopping malls, it is enough to have a consensus with the protection measures", he said.

He added that "if the schools open, we should go slowly so that there is no abrupt opening of multiple spaces and the traffic is such that they do not help the dispersal".

Asked if the de-escalation will last three months, Dr. Karagiannis answered that this can be done earlier and will depend on the course of vaccinations.

Finally, regarding the areas of Culture and Art, Dr. Karagiannis stated that we saw the implementation of the measures in these areas and they were safe. "But I do not know if they could open."
