Nearly two in three CVs contain at least one spelling mistake, new research shows.

The Adzuna job listing site studied nearly 150.000 resumes and found that one in three had five or more errors. More than 5.000 CVs contained at least 20 errors.

Other errors that are often found in CVs are large gaps in the service area, incorrect email addresses as well as too short or too long CVs.

As Adzuna co-founder Andrew Hunters explains, a sloppy resume can be a brake on a candidate's career. "Submitting a resume is usually the first step in the job application process and the first opportunity a candidate has to impress," he says.

"Documents with misspellings or missing information often lead to the candidate being 'cut' from the first stage," Hunters notes.

And he advises job seekers to write a personal note outlining their career aspirations and stating whether they prefer teleworking, hybrid work or office work.
