The Attorney General ordered the immediate investigation and registration of a criminal case by the Police in relation to the refusal to perform an autopsy on the body of the deceased Covid-19 by a medical examiner of the State, as well as the refusal of his compliance with the decree of the death investigator.

A statement said that the Legal Service made recommendations and suggestions to those responsible for the immediate necropsy and with the opinion of the Assistant Attorney General dated February 2, 2021 to the Ministry of Health, taking into account the guidelines set by the Health and from the Royal College of Pathologists.

These instructions, it is reported, allow an autopsy to be performed provided that the necessary protective measures are taken, he recommended compliance with the relevant decree. On this occasion, the announcement states, we express our satisfaction for the whole approach to the issue by the Director General of the Ministry of Health.

The statement added that the position of the Attorney General and the Assistant Attorney General is that respect for the dead and their relatives is an essential obligation, and that a long unjustified delay in burying a dead person is indulgently unacceptable. In addition, it is stated, the observance of a decree of the Court constitutes an circumvention of a fundamental aspect of the rule of law, which cannot be tolerated.
