A wild shark was found dead in fishermen's nets in occupied Karapasia.
According to a post on Facebook, after the shark was found in fishermen's nets, an autopsy was performed and its species was confirmed.
It is a female wild shark (Odontaspis ferox), a species protected under the Barcelona Convention. Its maximum length reaches 4,5 meters, while it feeds on fish, crustaceans and mollusks.
The wild shark caught in Karpasia, exceeded four meters and weighed half a ton.
Despite their size and appearance, this shark is harmless, as they were never known for their aggressive behavior towards humans. There are concerns that their numbers are declining due to human activities in the Mediterranean and elsewhere, although existing data are not sufficient to fully assess its conservation status.
