The Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakidou, will be in Cyprus on Monday, July 26, where she will meet with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Annita Dimitriou, and on Thursday, July 29, with the Minister of Health, Michalis Hadjipandella.

This official visit is part of the European Commission's ongoing efforts and Commissioner Kyriakidou's commitment to support the implementation of Member States' national vaccination campaigns to combat the disease. COVID-19.

Specifically, the subject of the discussion with the Minister will be the further management of the pandemic, the future course of the EU vaccine strategy, issues and challenges related to vaccinations in Cyprus as well as the Commission's proposals for building a strong European Health Union.

On the same day, the Commissioner will also visit the Reference Hospital in the Province of Famagusta to see up close the work being done, to speak with the staff as well as the management team.

In view of her arrival in Cyprus, Commissioner Stella Kyriakidou specifically stated the following:

"The EU has fulfilled its commitment and has already distributed sufficient doses, more than 500 million, to vaccinate 70% of the EU adult population."

"It is clear that the European Vaccine Strategy has borne fruit - for all Member States simultaneously and on the same terms regardless of size and strength," he said.

"We will now work as closely as possible with our Member States to ensure that they achieve their goals. "It's also important that everyone gets the right scientific approach to tackling the pandemic, not the internet misinformation or conspiracy theories."

"We must continue the vaccinations and at the same time we must observe the measures, because in Cyprus there is a worrying increase in the transmissible Delta mutation", the Commissioner concludes.
