The Government is taking new decisions regarding the entry of Cypriot citizens today, in the aftermath of yesterday's reactions.

Speaking to POLITIS 107.6, the Minister of Transport, Giannis Karousos, noted that today the Government will announce measures concerning special cases of Cypriots currently abroad, such as for reasons of medical treatment.

Mr. Karousos stated that the Government took strict measures to prevent a large spread of the coronavirus, believing, as he characteristically said, that "it is better to close everything and open some gradually, than to open them all".

Students are quarantined

According to the Minister, the students who arrived last night from the United Kingdom without a medical certificate and were allowed to disembark exceptionally are in quarantine areas. This is, as he said, 71 people in total.

Sees Prosecutor for airline

Mr. Karousos also stressed that according to the NOTAM of the Republic of Cyprus, no airline should allow the departure of its aircraft, if there are people in it who do not hold the required certificate.

He added that today he will have a meeting with the Attorney General and pointed out that the Republic will take legal action against the airline that yesterday allowed students to board two of its planes without a medical certificate.
