Reversal in the findings and investigations of 16 years that considered the death of a 26-year-old soldier as suicide. Examinations of a special bone from the body of Thanasis Nikolaou after his exhumation six months ago, revealed that his death was due to criminal activity by strangulation.

According to today's report by Michalis Hadjivasilis of the newspaper "Liberal", The shocking developments that confirm what Thanasis's tragic mother, Adriana, has been shouting incessantly since 2005, are expected to trigger new investigations in order to locate the perpetrators. It is noted that the initial investigations of the Police, which were delayed in completion, showed the soldier falling from the bridge of Alassa, under which he was located, apparently due to suicide, ruling out criminal activity.

The case was reopened on the instructions of the Attorney General following the sentencing of Cyprus by the ECHR for incomplete investigation, to be reopened in 2014 after criminal investigators were appointed who did not rule out the possibility of criminal action.

Thanasis' family never stopped searching for the truth and last year they asked for the exhumation of his remains, so that they could undergo a specialized examination in Greece. Following a court order of the Limassol District Court, the exhumation of the remains took place last December. The experts received the uveal bone, which during the exhumation was found to be dismembered, something that was not mentioned in the first forensic report that took place 16 years ago. Instead, it was reported to be normal. The lawyer of the family, Loukis Loukaidis, stated to "Phileleftheros" that after this development, new investigations should be made and he wondered, 16 years later, how testimonies would be found.

Thanasis' tragic mother told us that the bone examined in Greece was expected to return to Cyprus last night and added that she wanted to say a big "thank you" to the corrupt people who brought me to this position. It took so many years to prove that my child was killed. " She spoke of a long delay in examining this bone, since it took six months from the two weeks it took. Ms. Adriana wondered why the report of the Greek professor who examined the bone was not given by the Legal Service, as did the pathologist appointed by the family.
