Cyprus: More than 600.000 tests were performed by December 2

Cyprus is in the second wave. As evidenced by the data from the National Report that is published every week by the Ministry of Health, Cyprus has entered for good into the heart of the second wave of the pandemic.

It should be noted that as of December 2, 2020, 624.566 diagnostic tests were performed (71.305,6 per 100.000 population). In the last 14 days, 70.248 diagnostic tests have been performed (8.020,1 per 100.000 population).

The main points of the national reference:

• As of November 30, 2020, 10.622 cases have been diagnosed in the Republic of Cyprus COVID-19, with 52 deaths due COVID-19 (mortality COVID-19: 0,5%).

• The cumulative effect of 14 days COVID-19 (diagnosed cases of 14 days per 100.000 inhabitants) is 349,8 / 100.000.

• In the last 14 days (November 17-39) 3.064 confirmed cases were recorded COVID-19: o The median age of the cases COVID-19 were 37 years (Intra-quadrant range: 24-54 years), 50,1% for women (n = 1.536), 49,1% for men (n = 1.505) and for 23 cases (0,8%) gender was not currently available.

• Based on the epidemiological history, 1,2% (n = 36) were cases with a recent travel history, 82,6% (n = 2.530) were cases of domestic transmission and 16,3% (n = 498) were cases with unknown epidemiological history.

• On December 2nd, 121 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized. Their median age was 78 years (Intra-quarter age range: 63-85 years), with 50,4% (n = 61) concerning women.

• Among the patients, 14 people were in Intensive Care Units (ICU) on December 2 - 10 people were intubated. The median age of patients COVID-19 in ICU was 72 years (Intra-quadrant range: 68-81 years), while 10 cases (71,4%) concern men. Ten people (71,4%) in the ICU had underlying diseases.
