A case of premeditated murder, with the victim Andreas Evangelou, 53 years old, being investigated by the Larnaca Police.

Specifically, around 8.30 p.m. Yesterday, the Police received information about shots being fired in the parking lot of an apartment building in Larnaca. Members of the Police went to the scene, where they located a car inside the parking lot. Inside the vehicle, the 53-year-old was found dead, who had a number of injuries, which seem to have been caused by a firearm.

From the testimonies collected by the Police from a closed surveillance circuit, it appears that a scooter-type motorcycle, on which two people were riding, was following the vehicle of the 53-year-old. In the attempt of the victim, to park in the above parking lot, one of the passengers of the motorcycle, approached the car and allegedly shot the 53-year-old.

The scene was cordoned off by the Police for conducting examinations, during which various items were received.

The body of the 53-year-old was transported to the morgue of the General Hospital of Nicosia, where today around 10.30 am, the legal autopsy is expected to be performed.

In statements made yesterday at the scene, Christos Andreou, Spokesman of the Police, stated that "tonight around 20:30 information was received that a specific person received a number of shots in a specific area in Larnaca".

Members of the police, he said, "immediately went to the specific spot, cut off the scene and located a person who was later identified as a 53-year-old man, who seems to have received a number of shots."

From the preliminary examinations that followed, said Mr. Andreou, it was found that two people who were riding a motorcycle or moped, something that has not been clarified yet, seem to be involved in this case,

You see, said the Police Spokesman, "we are in the very early stages. At the moment, the scene has been ruled out, as I have said, examinations are being carried out by the Criminological Investigation Service and the Medical Examiners in order to establish or at least provide some evidence so that we have at least something in our hands to see how we are progressing ".

Regarding how many calibers were found at the scene and the type of weapon used by the perpetrators, Mr. Andreou said that it is too early to have these details yet. He reiterated that "tests are still being carried out on the scene and the number of bullets received by the victim has not yet been determined". Examinations are underway to determine the number of bullets and anything else that could help in the case, he added.

The victim was living in the specific apartment building, said Mr. Andreou, adding that it seems that he had parked in the parking lot and had received the shots there.

Strong police forces remained in the area overnight while the investigations continue today with the taking of statements and the control of CCTV videos from the area.
