Police in Paphos arrested a woman, who allegedly incited the public to mass gatherings yesterday afternoon in various places in all provinces through her posting on an online social networking platform.

The police operations were carried out following information that emerged in the previous days, for planned gatherings of people in places in the District of Paphos for the purpose of protesting against the measures to deal with the spread of the coronavirus.

According to the Police, among the information evaluated by the Police was a post on an online social networking platform, which encouraged the public to gather in a mass at 5.00 on the afternoon of Saturday, November 21, in various places in all provinces.

After examinations, it was found that the beneficiary and user of the account on the social networking site where the post was made, is 41 years old.

An arrest warrant was issued against her, by which she was arrested in Paphos, shortly before 15.30 yesterday, for the purpose of investigating a case of incitement to commit a criminal offense, negligence for the spread of life-threatening diseases and violation of the Infection Law.

The 41-year-old was indicted in writing for the offenses in question and was released around 1900, while the TAE Paphos continues the investigations.

Also in Paphos, around 17.30 in the afternoon, during their patrol, members of the Police approached persons who were in the Town Hall Square, to make recommendations to them regarding the observance of the measures to deal with the coronavirus.

A young man who was at the scene, started shouting and insulting the police, as a result of which he was arrested for the spontaneous offenses of public insult and causing concern in a public place, as well as for disobeying a decree on the Law on Disinfection.

Upon his arrest, a second young man also started shouting at the police, causing concern, as a result of which he was also arrested by the members of the Police.

The two young men, aged 23 and 20, were taken for examinations to the offices of TAE Paphos, where then, after being accused in writing, they were released.
