More than 555 cases of coronavirus in schools since the beginning of the pandemic

Prodromou: "The Ministry of Education never considered sending blankets to schools; it was a member of parliament."

Schools across Cyprus are counting more than 555 cases at a time when Cyprus is recording record numbers of people who are positive for the coronavirus.

In fact, from the beginning of the pandemic until today, more than 8 thousand students in all schools have been self-restrained.

On the issue of the pandemic, the Minister of Education, Prodromos Prodromou, stated that "at this time our society, led by the government, is fighting to deal with the pandemic by creating the right health responses."

"At the same time," continued Mr. Prodromou, "we are fighting a battle to claim our lives. We claim to be able to function socially, always adhering to the protocols and these are what our teachers and principals do every day. So the goal is to win the school year. "And I say this so that voices are heard, either to close schools in the slightest, or not to take exams, or for everyone to choose what they think."

Mr. Prodromou also pointed out that "as far as the protocols are concerned, we follow the advice, the opinion of the experts who have studied things. They are not sacred and inviolable. "There are some measures that have been taken that protect society as a whole."

"Since August, the protocols have been ratified in schools," he added.

He also noted that "especially on the issue of temperature now that Winter is coming and especially for young children in primary school, where a relevant discussion had taken place, we have decided together with the Ministry of Health and were given the opportunity to keep the doors closed and windows for some time, but ventilate the spaces the breaks, which can be extended for a few minutes. Of course, the central heating in the schools will also work. "

Asked to comment on whether bunk beds will be given in the end, Mr. Prodromou said it seems that it was a great success (the statement on the blankets), but το the Ministry of Education has never considered such a measure, I have never proposed such a thing. "The whole debate, to see sometimes how interesting it is, started with a proposal submitted by a member of parliament at the sitting in Parliament, and I had said that we should see that as well."
