The Deputy Minister of Tourism of Cyprus Savvas Perdios participated in the 66th Session of the European Commission of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which was held in Athens, on June 2-4.

The main topic of the Summit was the situation prevailing in the tourism sector in different countries, as well as the ways of dealing with the challenges of the pandemic.

During his speech, Mr. Perdios highlighted parameters that could contribute to the recovery of the tourism sector both in Cyprus and in other destinations.

He also stressed that despite the official launch of the European digital certificate on 1 July, the impression has been given that without it, travel is not allowed. As Mr. Perdios said, the specific impression is wrong, as the trips can be made without the certificate, under certain conditions of course. This is also shown by the example of Cyprus, which since March 1 has facilitated travel to and from the EU, said the Deputy Minister of Tourism, urging all members of the Organization to be clear in their public positions on this issue.

In addition, the Undersecretary welcomed in his speech the launch of the UNWTO 'Best Tourist Villages' program, which, as he said, is fully in line with the strategic plans of Cyprus and especially with the tourist certification model "Colorful Villages of Cyprus". which will be inaugurated in the coming days.
