In the important role played by Turkish Cypriot painter and writer Umit Inaxi, regarding the rescue of works of art that had been stolen from their Greek Cypriot owners, as a result of the Turkish invasion, the Cyprus Writers' Union is mentioned.

"Umit Inaxi surrounded the stolen paintings, rescued the others and had repeatedly written letters to the occasional Turkish Cypriot leaders, for the return of these paintings to the Greek Cypriots," the EPP said in a statement.

He adds that "and yes, the day before yesterday, his efforts were justified and for that he was very happy as if we talked on the phone, in almost flawless Cypriot language".
