Maria Kelasidou, 20, a resident of Strovolos, and Giorgos Athanassiou, 21, a resident of Lakatamia, were killed in a deadly car accident that occurred last night. The circumstances under which the traffic accident occurred are being investigated by the Nicosia Traffic Accident Department.
The fatal traffic accident happened around 9.45 on Sunday night, on Strovolos Avenue, at a point between the intersection with Perikleous Avenue and the "T" type junction with Athalassa Avenue, where the 20-year-old and the 21-year-old were driving towards Nicosia. The 20-year-old was driving the car, with the 21-year-old as co-driver.
Under the circumstances under investigation, the 20-year-old driver lost control of her vehicle and after passing over the dividing island of the road, she entered the opposite flow of traffic, where she collided with a car driven by a 47-year-old.
The 20-year-old and the 21-year-old were trapped inside their vehicle and the members of the Fire Service needed the intervention to free them. They were then transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Nicosia, where a doctor on duty confirmed their death.
The 47-year-old driver of the second car was transported by ambulance to the Nicosia General Hospital, with minor injuries. After she was given first aid, she was discharged.
The Police appeals to anyone who knows anything about the circumstances under which the fatal traffic accident occurred, such as contacting the Nicosia Traffic Police, at 22-802023, or the Citizen's Line, at 1460, or with the nearest Police Officer Station.
