Caged by the Holy Trinity, he died in the free areas 20 days ago, however, the occupying authorities only allowed his body to be transported to the occupied villages on Wednesday, so that he could be buried in his occupied village, as he wished.

According to KYPE, the funeral procession took place in the free areas and then the body was transported and buried in Agia Triada, in the presence of a priest and family members living in the occupied areas. Occupying authorities did not allow relatives living in the free areas to attend the burial.

Among other things, the occupying authorities asked his relatives to present a coronavirus test, before finally allowing the passage of the body with the assistance of the peacekeeping force. The initial reaction of the occupying authorities to the request for transfer to the Holy Trinity was negative, as they stated that burial is not allowed for reasons of public health. Therefore, for 20 days the body remained in the free areas until approval was given.

At the same time, in Karpasia there is a number of patients among the trapped, who have not been able to go to the free areas since the crossing of the roadblocks was stopped, as a result of which they have lost scheduled appointments with doctors for the treatments they are undergoing. Among those trapped is a person undergoing chemotherapy.

On the basis of the understanding reached on May 21 between the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mustafa Akinci, on June 8, the gradual lifting of traffic restrictions from the places where transit takes place by motor vehicles will begin. . Among other things, the measure concerns trapped Greek Cypriots or Maronites who live permanently in the occupied areas, but also Turkish Cypriots who work, study or receive medication and medical treatment in the free areas. At the same time, the crossing continues for humanitarian reasons. Those who will move must have a certificate that they are negative to COVID-19.

Asked about this, the Presidential Commissioner, Fotis Fotiou, told KYPE that there are plans to conduct a coronavirus test at least once for those who are trapped or resettled and wish to cross to and from the free zones, most likely at the expense of the Republic. "Every day we get phones," said Mr. Fotiou, referring to a double-digit number of interested parties. Among them, he said, a large number of people trapped by Rizokarpaso and Agia Triada have been affected, who were in the free areas and could not return after the roadblocks were closed. A number of resettlers who want to move from Kormakitis to the free zones were also affected, he added.

Asked about humanitarian problems, Mr. Fotiou said that "there are various requests, some of which do not fall into the categories of trapped and resettled, which we will look at separately."
