A 50-year-old driver of a car was found positive in a driving test under the influence of alcohol with an indication of 60μg%, who was involved in a road collision with an 18-year-old who was crossing a pedestrian road, in Nicosia province, last night. The 18-year-old received first aid at the General Hospital of Nicosia and was discharged, while the 60-year-old was arrested by members of the Police.
The road collision happened around 8.00 on Monday night, on Grigoris Afxentiou Avenue, in Akaki, where under conditions that are being investigated, while the 18-year-old was crossing the road on foot, he was hit by the car driven by the 60-year-old.
Members of the Police rushed to the scene, as well as an ambulance crew that transported the 18-year-old to the Nicosia General Hospital. The 18-year-old received first aid and was then discharged.
As part of the police examinations, the 60-year-old underwent a breathalyzer test with a final reading of 50% μg instead of up to 22μg% which is the allowed limit and after being arrested, he was detained for police examination purposes.
The Peristeronas Police Station is investigating the circumstances under which the road collision took place.
