20-year-old Dimitris Michael died on Sunday night, when the vehicle he was driving ended up on a cliff in the area of Agia Phyla. The Limassol Traffic Police is investigating the circumstances under which the new fatal traffic accident occurred.
In his statements on the scene, the head of the Limassol Traffic Police, Marios Charalambous, said that "at 19:40 an emergency call was received to 112, to the Police, that the user of a certain phone number may have been involved in a traffic accident".
On the basis of the coordinates given, he continued, an ambulance, members of the Police and the Fire Department were directed to the area, where a vehicle was located, on a cliff, while its driver was found to be dead.
Members of the Fire Department freed the unfortunate young man from the wreckage of the overturned vehicle, while he was then taken to the Limassol General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to Mr. Charalambous, the vehicle hit a guardrail, which it cut and ended up on the cliff, about 50 meters high.
When asked about it, he said that the driver "wasn't wearing a seat belt", while at first glance there are no signs of braking.
"The circumstances of the car's fall are being investigated," added the head of the Limassol Traffic Police.
