To date, 82% of people aged 80 and over have been vaccinated, with 70% having been vaccinated with both doses of the vaccine and 12% with the first dose of the vaccine, the Ministry of Health announced on Monday.

At the same time, in a statement, the competent Ministry notes that 76% of people in the age group 70-79 have completed their vaccination or have received at least the first dose.

As he adds, Cyprus is in the first places in the EU in terms of vaccination coverage for people aged 80 and over, adding that "with these data, Cyprus has achieved the goal set by the European Commission for vaccination coverage for the elderly".

The Ministry of Health states that "the vaccination against COVID-19 According to the scientific community, it is the only way to return to more normal conditions as soon as possible "and adds that" with the increase of vaccination coverage we take life back in our hands, we unlock the economy, mass social gatherings and events, tourism and travel, the Health System is shielded ".

He goes on to say that "for many of our fellow human beings, it is important every day and every hour that passes and any suspicion of postponing the vaccinations of people, especially those who need it, involves a risk to their own lives."
