19-year-old in custody for a case of forgery and forgery

A three-day detention order was issued by the District Court against a 19-year-old for a case of forgery, forgery and circulation of a forged document, in order to facilitate the investigations.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos, Michalis Ioannou, yesterday morning during the control by a member of the Control Center at Paphos airport, a person of Asian origin, who intended to travel to France, appeared for departure.

He presented a French identity card and after a check was made on it, suspicions were raised that it was fake. Large differences in passport security were also identified and investigated. It was found, according to the Police, that this is a 19-year-old from New Guinea, who submitted an application for political asylum on 14.12.2020 and his application is under consideration.

Therefore he resides legally in the territory of the Republic. He was arrested for the self-inflicted crime of forgery.

On the same day, a new court warrant was issued against the above person in relation to the offenses of forgery, the circulation of a forged document on the basis of which he was arrested around 11:00 yesterday.

Interrogated, he stated that he had bought his ticket from an unknown person for the amount of 500 euros which he sent from his country.
