A magnitude 7,3 earthquake shook Nepal again, just beginning to recover from the deadly catastrophe of recent weeks.
The first reports of deaths came from foreign missions: According to Kathmandu International Organization for Migration chief Paul Dillon, Reuters, four people were killed in the town of Chaoutara, near the epicenter. Two other people were killed in neighboring India, according to Indian emergency services. The new quake had a focal depth of 19 kilometers and was felt as far as New Delhi. Initially, the US Geological Survey estimated the magnitude of the quake at 7,1 degrees, but later corrected it to 7,4 and finally to 7,3. The epicenter was at a remote point on the border with China. . A second tremor occurred at a nearby point, 6,3 degrees. The earthquake occurred at 12:45 local time (10:05 Greek time). Buildings were shaken as far as the Indian capital, while in Kathmandu residents took to the streets in panic. A magnitude 7,8 earthquake on April 25 had claimed the lives of 8.150 people, according to the latest tally. In that earthquake 17.860 were injured while mountain villages were leveled.
