Berlin: US President Donald Trump will sign a new version of the immigration decree on Monday, which was suspended by justice and had caused international outcry. The new version is expected to ban immigration from six Muslim countries, but not from Iraq - which was in the January decree. The decree had caused outrage and a federal judge had suspended its implementation on February 3.

In an interview with Fox News, White House Adviser Kellan Conway said the decree would take effect March 16.

The previous version of the decree, signed on January 27, aimed to close the border for several months to citizens of seven Muslim countries and all refugees.

The key change is that Iraq will not be included in the countries affected by the full ban.

"Iraq is no longer on the list because of the enhanced verification process and the steps it has taken to transfer information," said Kellan Conway.

The adviser did not confirm whether the other six countries originally on the list (Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen) would remain on the list, or whether the new list would include other countries.

"If you have travel documents, if you have a visa, if you live legally in the United States, this decree does not apply to you," Conway said.

According to a senior White House official quoted by Reuters, the new executive order will maintain a 90-day ban on travel to the United States for citizens of those six countries.

Kellan Conway said that the Syrian refugees will henceforth be treated the same as the other refugees. In the original decree, Donald Trump wanted to suspend the reception of refugees for 120 days, but indefinitely for the Syrians.
