The need for a more active involvement of the European Union in the Cyprus issue, as Turkey's continued occupation and threats concern and are directed against an EU member state, pointed out the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiadis during yesterday's meeting of leaders of the European People's Party (EPP) in Athena.
As stated in a press release from the Presidency of the Republic, during his intervention, President Anastasiades expressed his grateful thanks for the stable and time-honored position of principles maintained by the EPP regarding the solution of the Cyprus problem and provided an update on Turkey's latest illegal actions.
He further pointed to the need for more active EU involvement, since Turkey's continued occupation and threats involve and are directed against an EU member state.
President Anastasiades noted with particular satisfaction the determination of EPP members to continue working to find a solution based on UN Security Council resolutions and EU principles and values, as stated.
