There can be no timetables in the talks on the Cyprus issue, but what must be done is political will and sincerity of intentions, said in a statement the President of the Republic and candidate for re-election, Nikos Anastasiadis, who today visited the T / C district and two refugee settlements in Larnaca as part of its election campaign.

Asked whether he agrees or disagrees with the views of Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci on the timetables, President Anastasiadis said he believes there will be a new round of talks, "provided the conditions are met, which are nothing more than respect for him." International law, the European acquis and the framework as defined by the UN Secretary General ".

As for the timetables, he continued, "despite the fact that we are not in favor of an indefinite cycle of talks, nevertheless, no timetables can be set that will definitely lead through the current stance of the Turkish and Turkish Cypriots to a final wreck. "Above all, there must be timelines, political will and sincerity in intentions and respect for what I have said."

Referring to statements by the Turkish Cypriot side about changing the negotiation process but also to Nami's statements that at the end of the process they should know what will happen to their "state", the President of the Republic said that he does not have in mind what they mean and that what he knows "is that the talks are owned by Cypriots, are within the framework of the UN and therefore one side can not determine the terms without the knowledge of the other".

Nikos Anastasiadis also responded to the accusations of delayed implementation of the GESS and regressions between mono-insurance and multi-insurance, stating that "those who accuse us preceded the government of the country with a law passed in 2001" and noted that "we tried with all our might, even changing the position for multi-insurance, in order to find a common ground so as to offer the Cypriot people a missing GESS ".

He went on to say that those who judge him "should consider that they did a decade of collaborating in the government of the place and forgot that there was the law on GESS. Today, as a result of the cooperation of all the political forces, the GESS with timetables has not only been adopted but is gradually being implemented through dialogue and will be implemented as defined. "In June 2019, if my memory does not deceive me, but there are the schedules, which will be finally implemented", he said.

Finally, when asked to comment on the statements of the Auditor General as they appear in the press, that is, in the issue of writing off the debts of the Associations, there was illegality for this and the intervention of the Attorney General is requested, President Anastasiadis said that the Attorney General has the floor.

"Of course, the Auditor General can make his remarks, but the one who decides on legality or illegality in charge, who should be respected by all of us who respect the institutions, is the Attorney General," he concluded.
