A presentation to the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulidis by each competent Ministry of the data they have before them in relation to the migration flows of the last period was made at the session of the National Security Council (NSC), on Friday, under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic, while there was also an exchange of views on the developments in the region, said Government Spokesman Constantinos Letympiotis.

The management of the migration flows of the last period and the exchange of views on the developments in the region occupied the session of the National Security Council (NSC), on Friday, under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulidis, said Mr. Letympiotis.

In statements, after the SEA session, which took place in the presence of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defence, Justice and Public Order, the Chief of the National Guard and the KYP Commander and National Security Adviser, and when asked what concerns him most, Mr. Letympiotis, since noting that the SEA will be in permanent session, he said it is not a matter of concern as "the SEA's role is to continually assess the data as it evolves and to have the necessary exchange of views in assessing that data".

Asked to say if there is a difference in security measures, the Spokesperson answered in the negative, saying that "the evaluation of the data" was done.

A presentation was made "to the President of the Republic, from each competent Ministry, of the data they have before them", he added.

Asked if the Government is concerned about the possibility of a new flare-up in the Middle East in relation to Iran and strikes on Israeli targets in Cyprus, Mr. Letymiotis said that the Government does not have such a thing in mind, adding that what "we said from the first moment after October 7 (and the attack by Hamas) and this is the call we are making internationally, is that there should be no escalation of this crisis for the wider region".

When asked in what way Cyprus is threatened, the Government Spokesperson said that "the entire region is threatened", adding that "any escalation, especially in our region, is something that will affect the security of the wider region".

"We, as the Republic of Cyprus, from the first moment have addressed this call internationally", while "in recent times we have seen, due to this situation in the region, the increased migration flows", in which "we focused our efforts towards the management of" the matter, he said and added that "we are constantly evaluating all the data every day".

Asked if there is anything new regarding the invitation addressed by President Christodoulidis to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to visit Lebanon, Mr. Letymbiotis said that there is nothing that can be announced, adding that "the office of the President of the Republic is constantly in contact with the offices of the President of the European Commission, it is something that is on the table, it is something that the President himself has announced and when there are concrete developments they will be officially announced".
