The President of the Republic goes to Bruges and Brussels

The President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis, is going to Bruges and Brussels, where he will address the College of Europe and participate in the European Council Meeting, respectively.

In his statements to the journalists, at the Presidential Palace, the Government Spokesman Mr. Konstantinos Letympiotis said: "The President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis, is going tomorrow to Bruges, Belgium, where he will visit the College of Europe and then he will go to Brussels, where he will participate in the work of the European Council, while sitting at a working lunch with the Secretary General (SG) of the United Nations (UN).

Specifically, President Christodoulidis will be in Bruges tomorrow, following an invitation addressed to him by the Society of Cypriot Students of the College, to address the College, as part of the national week dedicated to Cyprus. It is noted that this is the first time that the President of the Republic of Cyprus has visited the College.

Immediately after his arrival at the College, the President of the Republic will have a one-on-one meeting with Rector Mogherini and then he will speak to students and academics of the College of Europe and the European Diplomatic Academy, including Cypriots.

Afterwards, the President of the Republic will have a meeting with the Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr. Margaritis Schinas, before leaving for Brussels.

The following day, March 21, the President of the Republic will participate in the work of the European People's Party and then he will sit down to a lunch with the Secretary-General of the UN and the leaders of the member states of the European Union (EU), mainly on the subject of the Middle East, the situation in Ukraine and global challenges.

The work of the Synod and a working dinner will follow.

Among the topics that will occupy the work of the Synod are the Middle East, Ukraine, Immigration, Security, Enlargement and External Relations of the EU.

On March 22, the President of the Republic will participate in the anniversary event for the 30th anniversary of the European Economic Area, together with the leaders of the EU member states, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. An expanded Eurozone Summit will follow.

President Christodoulidis, who will be accompanied in Bruges and Brussels by the Government Spokesman Mr. Konstantinos Letympiotis, the Director of the Press Office of the President Mr. Viktoros Papadopoulos and officials, will return to Cyprus on the evening of March 22".

Asked if there will be a one-on-one meeting between the President of the Republic and the UN Secretary-General, the Spokesperson said: "If the opportunity arises, based on the UN Secretary-General's schedule, it is something we will see."
