Renovations and extensions of hotel units in Ayia Napa and Protaras continue "feverishly", in view of the beginning of the new tourist season.

Statements on the subject were given to SotiraNews by the Director of the Tourism Development and Promotion Company of Famagusta province, Mr. Lakis Avraamidis.

Referring to the issue, Mr. Avraamidis said that about 20 extensions and renovations of hotel units are being carried out in Ayia Napa and Protaras. As he said, some of these hotel units have completed their projects and are already in operation, while others will complete their renovations at the end of May, when they will welcome new guests. There are, he noted, road projects in some areas, which are in progress.

Upgrade in quantity but also quality - Extension of tourist season

According to the Director of ETAP Famagusta, the businessmen of the area have proceeded to "brave" renovations of their hotel units and other tourist businesses, with the result that the offered product of Famagusta increases both in quantity and quality. These investments, he noted, have cost several tens of millions and for this reason he expressed the belief that entrepreneurs will seek to repay the investments with a view to extending the tourist season, despite the 6 months of the current tourist season.

This event, as he said, will give a new dynamic to the tourist product of the province of Famagusta. He underlined, at the same time, the fact that "sacrifices must be made", as he said, "in order to change the mentality of tourists so that they do not consider the province of Famagusta and Cyprus in general as an exclusively summer destination."

"As a Tourism Development and Promotion Company, he said, agreements are being made with major agreements for a joint tourism campaign to extend the period and expressed confidence that in the coming years the image of the region will change."

Number of nights

According to Mr. Avraamidis, more than 2 thousand new beds are added, which need 30-40 thousand tourists in a semester to cover this number of new beds, while he also expressed his optimism for this year, since according to estimates the occupancy will reach 100%. The province of Famagusta traditionally holds, he said, 40% of the overnight stays, while the countries that are expected to increase are Russia, Germany, Israel, the Scandinavian countries and Switzerland.
