The radically renewed Volvo XC60 will be one of the models that will attract the eyes of the visitors of the Athens Motor Show 2013, which opens its gates on Saturday, November 2.

With a legacy of 1st place in sales in its category, that of mid-size luxury SUVs for both 2012 and the first half of 2013, the new Volvo XC60 is even more adapted to the spirit of the time, with strong emphasis on its premium features.

On the outside, maintaining the silhouette of its predecessor, the new Volvo XC60 seems to "tread" more mansions on the road. The new, single luminaires also contribute to this. All the black details that existed in the previous XC60 have been replaced by material in the color of the body. The overall result is a very elegant body, with the premium DNA of the model highlighted.

Inside there are new decorative cladding from natural wood, new materials and colors for the roof, the fabric cladding in the middle columns and elegant metal frames in the vents and switches. In the new XC60 the Corner Traction Control is now standard equipment, helping to eliminate reversal.

The XC60 in the R-Design version has a stiffer chassis, with more sporty behavior, but without compromising on comfort levels. In the XC60 R-Design the suspension springs and anti-roll bars have been adjusted to inspire faster driving, with a weigh-in that ensures more accurate driver information and better control.

In anticipation of the new 2.000cc four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines called the DRIVE-E, which will be available for order in the last two months of the year, the new Volvo XC60 is powered by Volvo's well-known supercharged engines.

They are available in a wide variety of displacement, number of cylinders and horsepower, to meet every need, in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive implementations. Let's see the options in more detail:

Oil

Two engines are available, both five-cylinder, in three power levels, from 136 to 215 hp. The transmission is six-speed, in both manual and automatic versions, where we have a second-generation Geartronic. The 2,4 liter engine is what drives the four-wheel drive version.

Petrol

Two engines are available, a two-liter four-cylinder and a three-liter six-cylinder, the latter being combined exclusively with four-wheel drive, with horsepower at 240 and 304 hp respectively. The transmission for both is a six-speed automatic, in the T5 dual-clutch version - Powershift, and in the T6, Geartronic, second generation.

All manual transmissions, without exception, for both petrol and diesel engines, are combined with a Start / Stop system, which helps reduce consumption and emissions.

For the first time in the new XC60, paddle shifters are also offered. These are available as an option in the four-wheel drive versions with automatic transmission. This allows the driver to operate the gearbox manually and achieve very fast gear changes without leaving the steering wheel in his hands.

It is worth mentioning that for many of the versions of the new XC60 there is also the Polestar upgrade package available. Typically, the new XC60 T6 with the Polestar upgrade package increases its horsepower by 25 hp, reaching a total of 329 hp, with no increase in standard fuel consumption and no change in the certified emissions of the model while of course the car remains under warranty.

The new XC60 offers the improved version of the Radar-based Blind Spot Information System (BLIS). The enhanced version can now monitor and warn the driver of vehicles approaching quickly up to 70 meters behind the car. Of course he still informs the driver about the vehicles in the "blind" places on both sides of the car.

The Cross Traffic Alert system uses radar sensors in the rear of the car to warn the driver of another vehicle passing by while reversing in a parking lot. This system is especially useful on narrow roads and busy areas where the visibility of the driver diagonally and back, may be limited due to construction, vegetation or other parked cars. The function warns of car movement up to 30 meters from the vehicle. The alarm stays on as long as there is an object in the system control zone and communicates to the driver with both an audible signal and a visual on the main screen.

The Road Sign Information system informs the driver of the road signs by displaying them on the instrument panel display. The system camera detects speed limit signs as well as signs prohibiting overtaking and plays them on the relevant screen until the next sign on the road is detected. Road Sign Information can be combined with a speed warning function, which provides the driver with a visual warning on the speedometer if the speed limit is exceeded.

The new Volvo XC60 will be available, initially as an accessory, and the Sensus Connected Touch system. The Sensus Connected Touch essentially transforms the 7-inch screen of the audio system into a touch screen that allows operation even when the user is wearing gloves. Among other things, a navigation system function is provided, which is of course used through the touch screen!

The system not only offers the ability to connect to the Internet via 3G / 4G but also globally increases the connectivity of driver and passengers with a variety of applications. Among them is the very popular Spotify application, which offers online music tracks, available from a database of millions of titles. Finally, it is worth mentioning that control of some functions of the Sensus Connected Touch will be possible even with voice commands.
