Ingredients
- 120 ml of olive oil
- 120 ml seed oil
- 1 orange zest
- 60 ml orange juice
- 75 g sugar
- 0,5 cinnamon
- 50 ml of brandy
- 0,5 tsp. baking powder
- 0,25 tbsp. baking soda
- 500 g flour for all uses
For the syrup
- 350 ml of water
- 250 g sugar
- 250 gr. honey
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 slice of orange
100 gr. chopped walnuts (for sprinkling)
Implementation
- First, prepare the syrup. Put the water, sugar, honey, cinnamon and orange slice in a saucepan. Boil for 5 minutes. Set aside.
- Then, put in a bowl the olive oil, the seed oil, the zest, the sugar, the orange juice, the cinnamon, the cognac, the baking powder and the baking soda.
- Stir with a pastry spatula until the mixture is homogeneous.
- Add the flour and continue mixing to incorporate the flour.
- Shape the melomakarona and place them in a pan with oil paste. Carve them with a fork.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 170 ° C for 25 minutes. Do not leave them longer because they will tighten.
- Make sure that the syrup has cooled and as soon as the melomakarona are ready, dip them as they are hot. Pass them for 2 minutes (the times here depend on how syrupy you want them) from the syrup and then place them on a plate.
- Sprinkle with chopped walnuts.
