The Minister of Health, Michalis Hadjipandela, had requested information from the Tracking Team, after many high numbers of incidents recorded on Monday and Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Health. From the data presented to him, it appears that the increase in cases does not result from specific areas, but concerns the wider community. However, according to information from politis.com.cy, a shift in coronavirus cases was observed at young ages.

Specifically, from the age group of people 35-50 years old, in which they were mainly located in the previous period, now, are observed in the age group 6-11 years. These are the children of the Primary School, the group that worries the authorities the most, since the children are not obliged to wear masks, to be vaccinated, nor to be tested regularly, in order to identify the positive ones in the virus soon.

What is expected to be considered in the near future is the possibility of the virus being transmitted to children of this age from their parents and then to schools. However, after the large chain of cases that was located in a Primary School in Limassol in the previous days, no new problem of the same scale arose.

Mainly contacts

The big ones case numbers announced by the Ministry of Health on Monday and Tuesday - 280 and 249 respectively - Despite the fact that they show that there has been an increased dispersion in the community, mainly within the family, the majority were concerned with contacts of already confirmed incidents. What is considered positive is that a large number of contacts have been identified, which should be isolated in order to avoid further dispersal.

Now, the Ministry of Health, as well as the members of the Scientific Advisory Committee, expect to see by next week the possible impact on OKYPY hospitals, of the increased number of cases in recent days.

A small percentage of the elderly

Another element, which is considered encouraging and emerged from the analysis of the Tracing Team data, is that from the coronavirus cases of the last days, the percentages concerning the elderly are very small. Specifically, individuals in the 70-79 age group account for only about 3% of cases and individuals in the 85 age group and above account for less than 0,5%.
