Famagusta has potential, which could make it a "smart city", through the integration, implementation, development and implementation of innovative technological solutions and the adoption of modern practices and experiences, according to the President of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK) ), Stelios Achniotis.

ETEK, on the initiative of the Committee for Contacts with Turkish Cypriot Engineers of the Chamber, organized today a Conference entitled "Famagusta: Smart City", at its Educational Cultural Center in Nicosia.

In his greeting, Mr. Achniotis, after noting that the Chamber "is not politicized and not politicized", pointed out that Famagusta, from a purely technical point of view, is a very special, possibly unique, case in which, in terms of study and design , on a large scale, provides the opportunity to integrate, implement, develop and implement innovative technological solutions and adopt modern practices and experiences that integrate and shape what we call a "smart city".

In this course, he noted, the synergy of technology companies, communications and information technology, the Academy of Government Services and agencies, as well as municipalities and cities that, having already adopted and implemented specific practices, now have experience in this field.

In his greeting, the Mayor of Famagusta Simos Ioannou, said that the opening and development of Famagusta as a whole can be a "new horizon" of economic progress and create such a momentum that will take Cyprus out of the current pessimism and lead it to growth.

Mr. Ioannou called on the Turkish Cypriots to cooperate with the Greek Cypriots in order to prevent the opening of the enclosed area of Famagusta, as was illegally announced by the Turkish Cypriot side.

"Famagusta can regenerate the hope for a final and lasting solution to the Cyprus problem. Time is not our ally and the current status quo leads to divisive consequences with catastrophic consequences for both communities. "The only way to resolve the Cyprus problem peacefully is to resume talks within the framework set by the UN Secretary General," said the Famagusta Mayor.
