The study for the protection and improvement of the coastal area of Pantachos and Glyki Nero, was presented on Wednesday, June 30, at the Municipal Palace of Ayia Napa.
A written announcement of the Municipality of Ayia Napa states that in the event hall of the Municipality of Ayia Napa, was presented by the researchers of the Company "Marnet" Societe Anonyme and by the Department of Public Works (branch of Marine Works), the second public presentation of the study and improvement of the coastal area of Pantachos and Glyki Nero. The study concerns the fishing shelter of Ayia Napa, 1.6 km long, in order to have the desired result of the protection from the erosion of the specific beach ".
The initial study "was presented on September 29, 2020, at the Municipal Museum" Sea "where various suggestions, views and concerns were submitted. The study was also updated, which was presented yesterday with the new scenarios, from which a slightly differentiated one has been selected, which aims at the protection and restoration of the erosion of Pantachos beach ".
It is added that the Municipality of Ayia Napa in collaboration with the company "Marnet" and the Department of Public Works (Marine Works) managed in the midst of a pandemic, to update this issue and prepare the study immediately after its last presentation in September. 2020 ».
It is noted that "during yesterday's presentation, it was decided and confirmed the updated model that will be implemented from corrosion protection after and if it is licensed by the competent departments."
The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zannettou, stated that “we are at the beginning of the end of the situation that has been created with the problem of erosion of Pantachos beach, for which the Municipality accepted a lot of complaints from tourists. This beach is the most important beach of the Municipality and consequently of Cyprus, the largest in area that hosts thousands of tourists daily, however the image it presents is a negative impact on the tourism industry of the country ".
According to Mr. Zannettou, "the goal and purpose is the complete restoration of Pantachos and Glyki Nero beach, since the national economy and the national tourism industry of our country are based on the quality and upgrading of the services we offer as a tourist destination. "We hope that the restoration work will begin as soon as possible," he said, adding that "the planned procedure for licensing the project will be followed in order to announce the bids, since it has been included in the state budget for 2022."
