The traffic at the roadblock of Deryneia was limited until noon, which opened at 6 this morning, after 11 Greek Cypriots had passed through the occupied areas by 50, while about 15 Turkish Cypriots came to the free areas.

The on-duty police officers at the roadblock check the PCR and Rapid Tests, which must be done within 7 days and must be presented at the crossing.

The Mayor of Deryneia, Andros Karagiannis, stated to KYPE that “at the moment, the attendance of the people from the roadblock of Famagusta Avenue in Deryneia is low. In total, until 11 in the morning, around 50 Greek Cypriots and foreign tourists passed through the occupied areas, while only 15 Turkish Cypriots came to the free areas ".

He added that "yesterday the working staff of the Municipality of Deryneia went to the roadblock area and cleaned the area, while during an inspection that followed we found that there were several Greek Cypriots and tourists who asked to be informed about the opening of the roadblock. "From our side, the roadblock opened today at 6 in the morning, however there was a delay on the Turkish Cypriot side, as it opened at around 8, with the result that several Turkish Cypriots working in the free areas go to the Strovilia roadblock to cross."

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Karagiannis said that "so far there are no complaints about the way in which the controls are carried out at the Deryneia roadblock, since it is not allowed to enter the occupied areas, people who are vaccinated without the presentation of PCR or Rapid test "This is a small inconvenience that everyone has to suffer, but this is what the regulations say, which must be respected by everyone in case they want to go to the occupied areas or come to the free areas."

To another question, the Mayor answered that "the Police is showing professionalism and we must note that from the day the Deryneia roadblock was opened, it works very well, since there is a modern system. I am confident that both the Police and the other state bodies will continue to carry out this exceptional work and will facilitate the people in their movements ".

At the same time, he expressed the estimation that it is expected that at the weekend the number of people who will cross the Deryneia roadblock either to cross to the occupied areas or to come from the occupied areas will be increased.

In addition, sources from the British Bases of Dhekelia told KYPE that today there is no increased traffic at the roadblocks of Strovilia and Pergamon that are under the jurisdiction of the Bases.

The same sources also stated that those who go to the occupied areas from the two specific roadblocks, are not controlled by the people who are in the customs of the British Bases.

It is noted that the roadblocks of Strovilia and Pergamon had not been closed during the coronavirus pandemic, as people working in the free areas, students and people with health problems were allowed to cross.

According to the sources of the British Dekelia Bases, it is expected that at the weekend there will be an increase in the movement of people who want to go to the occupied areas and come to the free areas.
