Athena Lianou from Deryneia is only 24 years old. Nevertheless, as everything shows, another Cypriot voice will claim the trophy of The Voice. He is a BMus with Honors graduate of the University of Glasgow in Scotland and has a postgraduate degree in Musical Theater at the PMTP by Sia Koskina School in Athens. Currently, she works as a music teacher at the private school Xenion High School in Paralimni and as a vocal teacher at the music conservatory of Niki and Christos Karaiskos in Ayia Napa and Deryneia.
He spoke to us exclusively in the new #Instagrammers column of Famagusta.News and answered 9 critical questions:
Why did you choose to go to The Voice?
Because I believe that The Voice gives singers the opportunity to show their work and stand out, while meeting well-known people in the field, who in turn may give aspiring singers and musicians opportunities for possible collaborations.
What is your relationship with music?
Ever since I can remember, every moment of my life has been intertwined with music. I started playing music, and especially singing, at a very young age, making my first public appearance at the age of four. My parents saw early on my love and appeal for music and so I started taking voice, piano and music theory classes, which helped me get the supplies I needed to secure a degree in classical and modern song, as well as a place at the University of Glasgow. During my music career, I have taken part in various events, competitions, concerts and music and dance performances. Currently, and after completing my studies, I work as a teacher of music and vocals and at the same time I continue live performances in music scenes in Cyprus.
How far do you want to go?
What I want is not so much how far I will go in the game, but mainly how I will interpret the songs and what my presence on the stage of The Voice will be in general. I want people and judges to listen to my music and I hope this will take me as far as possible, both in the game and in the music industry in general.
Would you give up everything for a career in singing?
I believe that when you have people next to you who support you and believe in you, you do not have to sacrifice or give up something to do what you love. I am lucky enough to have such people by my side.
