Occupying army remains in Deryneia - Poll "S": Loud NO for roadblocks

The occupying army remains in the area of the roadblock of Deryneia, despite the commitment of the President of the Republic for its removal, as a condition for the opening. According to information revealed today by the newspaper SIMERINI, the Turkish army will move only a few meters from the outpost where the pseudo-police will camp and will not be visible to passers-by, but will be able to monitor the area. Although the history of a roadblock seems like a drop in the ocean, the symbolism and semiology of its management is a microcosm of the timeless management of the Cyprus problem. The conditions of the Greek Cypriot side are gradually neutralized by the Turkish obsession, they end up in constructive ambiguities, but they leave the solution of the Cyprus problem in the air and they maintain the occupation.

This belief is shared by the vast majority of citizens, as, according to the IMR / University of Nicosia poll on behalf of "S", 75% do not believe that we are leading to a solution "based on what has been discussed in recent years."

Camouflage in possession

The mountain set by Anastasiadis went for a walk - The occupying army does not leave the Deryneia roadblock

At the end of last September, after the end of his meeting with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, President Anastasiadis was staying in New York: "We are ready. What remains is to find out that the other side is also ready in terms of technical specifications and more. Because there is an agreement that in order for the Deryneia roadblock to work, the outpost of the Turkish army will have to be moved. As far as I know, from the Turkish or Turkish Cypriot side it is stated that something similar has not been agreed or that the Turkish army has no intention of moving the outpost. So there is a very clear violation of what has been agreed. "

About a month later, on October 26, after the infamous meeting between Anastasiadis and Akinizi at the home of the Special Representative of the Secretary General. of the UN in Cyprus, Elizabeth Spehar, announced the opening of the Deryneia-Lefkas roadblocks. According to a telegram from KYPE, the President, when asked to answer whether the opening of the roadblocks presupposes the fulfillment of the conditions set by the relevant agreement, namely the movement of the Turkish outpost at the Deryneia roadblock, indicated: "you will witness what will follow of the month ", clarifying that they will not be on the spot with Mustafa Akinci.

"It simply came to our notice then. "What can be done is, if there is any progress on a specific confidence-building measure, that we meet on 12 (November), but I repeat, it depends on whether a solution is found to the issue of Mobile Telephony.". There was no talk of moving the Turkish outpost.

What was agreed?

Investigating further on whether or not to move the occupation outpost (and the army), we came to a situation that would be laughable, if not for crying. As "Simerini" is informed on Sunday, the occupying army will move from the outpost but not from the area. In essence it will… camouflage. A government source familiar with the matter said that the opening of the Deryneia roadblock could proceed normally "as long as there is no visible military presence". A statement that can certainly be interpreted in various ways, because the Attila outpost will remain in the area with another use, but the occupying army will not be visible to the eye of those who pass the point of the controlled passage.

As we were further told, the Turkish soldiers will move a few meters, so that they have "visual contact" with the National Guard outpost, which is located in the free areas. What seems to be happening is the transformation of the outpost into a "pseudo-government" building, as the so-called "foreign minister" of the pseudo-state, Kudret Ozersay, had stated at an unsuspecting time. During a visit to the Deryneia roadblock in early October, Ozersay tried to justify the Turkish military outpost by not leaving, saying that the National Guard post was at the same distance from the road, adding that the pseudo-state intended to convert the ) in "police" or "customs" offices.

Diplomatic maneuver by the Representative

Asked to comment on the opening of the Deryneia roadblock, Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou told "S" that the purpose of the Greek Cypriot side is to comply with the agreements, provided that the free movement of citizens is not affected: "As for the roadblocks, reiterating that the purpose of creating crossings is to overcome the obstacle and the problem of occupation, it goes without saying that there will be no military presence at the crossing points and in this way the two crossings will be able to function." He also noted that from the beginning there were suggestions and interest for other crossing points, which in terms of serving the citizens were at least equally important.

In a few days, however, on Monday, November 12, the barbed wire on Famagusta Avenue will be moved to the side to open another controlled crossing point between the free areas and the occupied areas. This time they will unite Deryneia with the occupied Lower Deryneia, Agios Memnon and the occupied Famagusta. Whether Messrs. Anastasiadis and Akinci will be present is something he did not clarify. As everything shows, the occupying army will be present, but those who cross the roadblock will not see it…

Outpost with history

It is noted that the presence of this Turkish outpost on Famagusta Avenue had, according to our information, been of great concern to both the United Nations and the Government in the very recent past. In fact, there were intense performances for his movement, mainly due to the fact that he was in a dead zone. It is recalled that, a few days ago (October 19), an independent event was held at the roadblock of Deryneia, with the central slogan "Close the roadblocks that support the occupier", emphasizing that at this point Solomon Solomonou was brutally murdered by K. as well as Tassos Isaac from the Gray Wolves.

Today's Poll: Veto on Anastasiadis - No to Dizoniki - Slap for roadblocks

In a poll conducted today by MIR / University of Nicosia, the vast majority rejects the Bi-Zone Bi-Communal Federation, vetoes the stay of the Turkish army, expresses a categorical "no" to the roadblock policy and considers that "what has been discussed in recent years" solution.

More specifically regarding the opening of roadblocks and the question "Are you in favor or against the opening of roadblocks?" 59% are against, 37% in favor and 4% DG / DA.
