EDEK appeals to the government to make second thoughts and not to proceed with the opening of the Deryneia roadblock in a statement.
On the occasion of the publications that want the meeting of the President of the Republic with the occupying leader to be related to the opening of the Deryneia roadblock, EDEK reiterates its call to the government to think twice and not to proceed with the opening of this roadblock.
The opening of the roadblock of Deryneia, according to the announcement, is a decision in the wrong direction as:
- It will eliminate the possibility of the return of the closed city of Famagusta to its legal residents,
- It will facilitate unfair competition to the detriment of Greek Cypriot farmers and smallholders, and finally,
- It will facilitate the movement of tourists from Protaras and Ayia Napa to occupied Famagusta with the corresponding effects on tourism and the economy of the two areas.
