Deryneia's actions to protect the environment at a seminar in Estonia

The actions of the Municipality of Deryneia regarding the implementation of good practices for the protection of the environment were presented by Mayor Andros Karagiannis in a seminar held in Tallinn, Estonia on June 5 and 6.

In a statement from the Municipality of Deryneia, it is stated that "Mayor and member of the European Committee of the Regions (ECtR) Andros Karagiannis presented the actions and initiatives of the rural Deryneia for circular cities in a special seminar held in the Green Capital of Europe 2023, in Tallinn, Estonia on June 5 and 6. The theme of the seminar was "Accelerating the transition to a circular economy in cities and regions".

The Mayor "referred to the four most important environmental initiatives of the Municipality of Deryneia concerning the promotion of door-to-door recycling, placing particular emphasis on the education of children and households in general, as well as the delivery of composting bins to new couples who chose Deryneia as their place of residence but also in schools, to create mulch from household waste".

Mr. Karagiannis "also referred to the replacement of old light bulbs with new, economical LED bulbs and the saving of approximately 70% in electricity consumption. He also noted the need to approve the creation of a Green Point in cooperation with the central state and the European Union for the recycling of bulky and agricultural waste.

According to the announcement "as a culmination of these actions and initiatives, the Municipality of Deryneia is an example to follow, something that is recognized by both the EEtP and the central state after it was awarded as a Green City for 2022".
